Power Up! Summer sponsored by Champion Energy Services

Children’s Museum Houston (CMH) invites you to give your summer fun a super charge with ‘Power Up! Summer’. This electrifying season of excitement is anything but ordinary! There is something to do every day, including events like: interactives, demonstrations, spotlight performances, meet-and-greets and more! Highlights include:

June 2023

June 10th- August 6th : Power Up: The Musical!

Come be a part of the game with the long-awaited return of our original summer musical production!  Power Up: The Musical! Follows Ollie, a kid who spends time at home for summer break playing a retro-inspired video game. Ollie, playing as the character Pixel, must earn three power-ups to finish the game. However, the bosses of the game, Glitch and Spike, keep throwing new challenges their way.  Pixel and Ollie need to figure out how to help one another level up—and unlock some unexpected achievements along the way.  This daily interactive performance lasts approximately 20 min. and can be enjoyed by children of all ages.

Play Schedule:

Monday - Wednesday: 11:30am & 1:30pm

Thursday: 1:30pm, 3:30pm, and 5:30pm

Friday - Saturday: 11:30am and 1:30pm

Sunday: 1:30pm and 3:30pm

June 17th 18th and 19th : Juneteenth Celebration

Funded in part by the City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance
Known to some as the country's “second Independence Day,” Juneteenth celebrates the freedom of enslaved people in the United States at the end of the Civil War. We celebrate this special day with performances which embrace the African-American spirit by the Ensemble Theatre (June 18th and 19th) as well as the Kids Express Theatre (June 17th). And don't miss your chance to bust loose and dance your heart out to the infectious tunes of DJ Ferbidden. Also performing is the cultural phenomenon Djembe Drumming (June 19)!

June 24th : Dino-mite Day!

Funded in part by City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance

Something Jurassic is coming to the Museum! Get ready to be thrilled as some (not-so-scary) dinosaurs will pay a visit to the Museum to put on a pre-histerical Dinosaur Show for you! Then when you're done watching their funny antics, attend one of our Dino-Art Workshops and create a souvenir to take home.

July

July 1st: Guardians of the Galaxy Blast Off!
During this celebration, outer-space is the place! Get ready to meet a few Guardians of the Galaxy during a very Marvel-ous meet-and-greet. And then cruise on over to the Art Academy and make your very own baby Groot in a Groot Art Workshop!

July 4th: Kidpendence
Funded in part by the City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance
The stars and stripes will be in full effect as we celebrate our country's birthday during the Museum's annual event! Who will be joining us? None other than the most patriotic of all superheroes, Captain America. And we may not be setting off fireworks, but there will be plenty of colorful spectacles to behold with our Extreme Science Shows! See Mentos Geysers and the zany, Elephant Toothpaste both blast off!

July 7th: Tanabata 七夕 Japanese Star Festival

In partnership with Consulate General of Japan in Houston

Funded in part by City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance

As legend is told in Japanese culture, two star-crossed lovers, Vega and Altair, are separated by the Milky Way. Beat the odds and test your gaming skills. Celebrate National Videogame Day by playing some of your favorite games at our Game Truck! And meet two of the speediest video game characters, Sonic and Shadow! (Knuckles is slowing down to take the day off.)
