You might walk in to find a first draft of our newest, wackiest exhibit idea, a remixed classic from exhibits past, or an activity we’re putting to the test for the first time. Every prototype is an invitation to try, tinker, and, most importantly, tell us what you think!

Prototopia offers a rare window into how Children’s Museum Houston makes things. Behind all our exhibits and programming is an iterative design process: try something, observe how it works, reflect on what could be better, and try again. In Prototopia, visitors participate in that same loop from the user side, engaging with prototypes in progress, noticing what works and what doesn’t, and sharing what they think. The curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving kids practice throughout the Museum are revealed as the same tools that museum developers and designers rely on every day.
