Work and Whimsy features more than fifty pieces of artwork by award-winning children’s book illustrator R. Gregory Christie. Christie’s distinct portraiture style and whimsical illustrations highlight historical African Americans and cultural movements. This exhibit is curated by the National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature (NCCIL).
Along with viewing R. Gregory Christie’s award-winning illustrations, the exhibit also features many of his well-loved books for families to read and share together. Plus, visitors can create their own postcard in Christie’s unique style.
Reading with your children helps to build their vocabulary, background knowledge, and learn story structure while showcasing reading as a fun activity. Looking at and engaging with art with your kids helps them reflect about the world around them and empathize with others. Plus, both activities help to build strong bonds and trust!
