This dynamic series of free workshops is developed from a residency program that pairs Houston-based artists with talented local teachers to guide young creatives through unique, hands-on experiences. Come learn about culture, explore art techniques, and express your creativity!

Planet Earth Scrap Sticker Lab: In this hands-on experience, we will explore how communities across East Asia are protecting the planet through innovative approaches to sustainability and environmental care.
Visitors will reflect on the importance of reducing waste, reusing materials, and recycling. Using recycled supplies, they will design and create their own stickers inspired by ocean life, plastic reduction, and renewable energy themes to promote environmental awareness.

Naomi Kuo (Artist)
Naomi Kuo is a Taiwanese-American mixed media and social practice artist based in Houston, TX. Her work utilizes drawing, collage, zines, textile-making, and various collaborative modes to help diverse communities strengthen connections of care with each other and the environment. Her projects also often include oral histories, skill sharing, experimentation with recycled materials, and opportunities for activism.
Kuo received an MFA in Studio Art/Social Practice at the City University of New York, Queens College, and her art has been exhibited in the Newark Museum of Art (NJ), Queens Museum of Art (NY), Asia Society Texas Center, Houston Climate Justice Museum, and more. She is a current member of BOX 13 ArtSpace.

Amanda Moreno (Teacher)
Ms. Amanda Moreno is the Malala Elementary Art 2 instructor. She is a certified teacher for K-6 all subjects, K-12 Art, and 7-12 Mathematics. Amanda is fluent in Spanish, which allows her to be more understanding of ELL students from various backgrounds. She has both a Bachelor of Fine Arts and an MA in Art History and Visual Culture.

Jenny Han (Teacher)
Jenny Han is a dedicated art educator with eight years of experience fostering creativity and hands-on learning in students. Prior to teaching, she worked as a graphic designer in the advertising field and later discovered a meaningful path in education after raising her four children. As a lifelong learner, she values curiosity, exploration, and thoughtful skill-building in the classroom. Outside of teaching, her hobbies include cooking, baking, and crocheting.

Kimi White (Teacher)
Kimi White is a veteran art educator with 16 years of experience in Dickinson ISD, where she has built dynamic, student-centered art programs across elementary and secondary campuses. As a two-time Teacher of the Year, she is known for leading large-scale community art events, cross-curricular collaborations, and culturally responsive lessons that celebrate diverse artistic traditions. Her students have earned many local, state, and national awards, and their work has been recognized in competitions such as the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Art Contest. Kimi’s commitment to the arts extends beyond the classroom through public art installations, campus-wide initiatives, and long-standing membership in the Texas Art Education Assoc.
