The Museum is preparing for the arrival of VIPs—migrating Monarch butterflies. Traveling to Mexico for the winter, butterflies stop at the CenterPoint Energy EcoStation exhibit to fuel up on nectar and lay eggs during their 2,000+ mile, multi-generational migration. The EcoStation welcomes butterflies with year-round blooms, as well as milkweed plants that serve as food for Monarch caterpillars.
This outdoor exhibit shows children how even urban spaces—such as an apartment balcony—can support birds and butterflies. In surveys earlier this year, visitors said they were inspired by the EcoStation to try nature activities at home, such as planting wildflowers and making a bee house. Plus, 96% of families said their CenterPoint Energy EcoStation visit helped them identify native wildlife.
