This dynamic series of 12 free workshops pairs Houston-based artists with talented local teachers to guide young creatives through unique, hands-on experiences. Come learn about culture, explore art techniques, and express your creativity!
Each of the 12 workshops offers a new, exciting lesson on East Asian arts and craft techniques. Participate by signing up outside of the workshop location!

Calligraphy and Collaborate: Discover the Beauty of Communication: A Calligraphy Workshop for Kids! Rooted in centuries-old traditions from China, Japan, and Korea, calligraphy is more than just beautiful writing, it’s an expressive art form that reflects culture, discipline, and storytelling. In this vibrant, hands-on workshop, children will explore the fascinating history of East Asian calligraphy and its role in visual communication. They’ll engage in collaborative painting projects inspired by brushwork techniques, while also developing their own symbols and styles to express personal stories and perspectives.
This workshop invites young artists to connect, create, and celebrate the power of words.

Whitmire Vo (artist)
Whitmire is a designer who enjoys bringing together different fields of thought. With a background in mechanical engineering and UX design, she explores practical yet imaginative solutions that influence behavior. Looking ahead, she's pursuing a Master in Industrial Design at RISD to further develop her creative problem-solving abilities.
Iva Osei-Kuffour (teacher)
Iva Osei-Kuffour is a jewelry designer, painter, and visual arts instructor passionate about culture, technique, and storytelling. She teaches 6th grade Visual Arts at Lawson Middle School and is a member of CAMH’s Teacher Advisory Group. Her students’ work, Threat of Joy, will be featured in the CAMH Our exhibition this May.
Iva is excited to join the EastArts Teaching Residency this summer in collaboration with the Children’s Museum Houston.
