This dynamic series of free workshops is developed from a residency program that pairs Houston-based artists with talented local teachers to guide young creatives through unique, hands-on experiences. Come learn about culture, explore art techniques, and express your creativity!

Claying with Nerikomi: Create colorful, one-of-a-kind designs inspired by the ancient Japanese art of Nerikomi! In this fun, hands-on workshop, families will layer, roll, and slice vibrant polymer clay to reveal beautiful patterns and create unique pieces. Bring your creativity and leave with a handmade piece you can turn into jewelry, ornaments, or a special souvenir!

Instructor: Komie Kim Le
Komie Kim Le (b. 1990s, Houston, TX) is a Vietnamese-American artist whose sculptural practice transforms ceramics into exuberant vessels of cultural translation. Her stacked and ornamented forms combine fragments of immigrant nostalgia—fish sauce bottles, baskets, blue crabs, pomelos, and piggy banks—into intricate towers of humor and tenderness. Through this maximalistic and tactile language, Komie explores how food, ritual, and domestic objects become markers of belonging and identity.
Teacher/Artist: Brynne Henry
Brynne Henry is a Houston-based children’s book illustrator, mixed-media artist, researcher, and K-12 instructor. She graduated from the University of North Texas with a B.F.A. in Art Education and is currently in her 3rd year of teaching. Outside of teaching, she enjoys working on her studio art practice and participating in public programming within Houston’s art spaces. Her love for art was passed down generationally and she sincerely hopes to inspire the next generation of artists to continue using art as a vehicle for information exchange and self-expression.
Teacher/Artist: Rosalinda Martinez
Rosalinda Martinez is an educator, artist, and lifelong learner dedicated to creating meaningful artistic opportunities for her students and community. As a native Houstonian who overcame economic hardship, she understands firsthand the transformative power of access to education and the arts.
Rosalinda is passionate about ensuring her students experience a rich variety of creative opportunities, especially those they may not have access to outside of school. She believes art is not only a form of self-expression, but also a pathway to confidence, cultural awareness, and expanded possibilities.
Through her work as both an artist and educator, Rosalinda strives to inspire curiosity, resilience, and creative exploration in every student she serves. Her mission is to open doors, broaden perspectives, and empower young artists to see beyond their circumstances.
Teacher: Sarah Corrick
I am a dedicated PreK–5th grade art teacher with over a decade of experience inspiring young artists to explore their creativity and build confidence through self-expression. As a mother of three, I value the importance of nurturing curiosity and imagination both in the classroom and at home. I am also a passionate painter who continues to grow and create alongside my students.
