Giving the Gift of Literacy

October 8, 2026

Sponsored by Phillips 66 and Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation

‍

How many books did you have when you were growing up? Almost half of families in Texas have fewer than ten children’s books at home, according to a 2025 survey by the nonprofit BookSpring.

To ensure that every child in our community has their own books to read, CMH teamed up with Phillips 66 and Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation for a book giveaway on Free Family Night during National Literacy Month. With the help of friendly volunteers, each child received four books based on their reading level. This event kicked off another year of Read Strong All Year Long programming sponsored by Phillips 66.
