When the Museum produced its first summer musical more than a decade ago, one of the goals was to create opportunities for young actors to gain professional stage experience. What the Museum couldn’t predict is how far some of these talented students would go.
Ebrin R. Stanley starred in the Museum's 2015 summer musical when he was a high school student. Recognizing his talent, the Museum invited him to direct a play and compose original music. Ebrin's work at CMH helped launch an incredible career. He has starred in Hamilton on Broadway and in major touring productions. In addition to his success as an actor, he has composed music for television shows and Lollapalooza.
When asked about his time at the Museum, Ebrin shared how much he enjoyed bringing the performing arts to Houston’s children:
I love CMH. It’s some of the best few years of my artistic career. I still remember when I took my one-year-old niece to a show at the Museum that I helped produce. At the end of the show, without any prompting, she started clapping. It was her very first live performance. This is why these performances at Children’s Museum Houston are important. To this day, I have dreams of one day having my own kids and showing them a performance at CMH. It holds a special place in my heart.
CMH is proud to be a place where youth like Ebrin can follow their dreams. Thank you to the many donors who help us bring programming like the summer musical to everyone, including on Free Family Nights. Supporters that we are highlighting this month include The Wortham Foundation, Inc.; John P. McGovern Foundation; Shriners Children's Texas, and the Junior League of Houston, Inc.
