Play Diner: Service & Stage
Inspired by: Niko Niko’s Greek Diner at Kidtropolis, USA
Recommended Age: 24–36 months
How this supports your child’s development:
• Helping & Cooperation (contributing to family routines)
• Executive Function (following a sequence: take order → prepare → serve)
• Language Development (using polite phrases, naming foods)
• Fine Motor Skills (carrying, pouring, scooping)
At-Home Setup & Instructions:
Turn snack time into a “diner shift” where your toddler gets to prepare and serve simple snacks for a family member.
1. Setup the “counter”: Place toddler-safe snacks (banana slices, cheese cubes, crackers) in small bowls on a low table. Have cups of water or milk ready.
2. Take a “customer order”: Ask, “Would you like crackers or banana slices?” Keep choices simple.
3. Prepare the plate: Your toddler places the chosen snack on a plate and pours water from a small pitcher or hands over a cup.
4. Serve the customer: Have them carry the plate to the table or hand it to the “customer” with a friendly, “Here you go!”
5. Optional cleanup: Let them bring empty dishes back to the counter when done.
Parent Tip:
Model polite interactions: “Thank you, Server!” and prompt them to respond with “You’re welcome!” Praise the helpfulness: “You made snack time so easy for me!” This reinforces the joy of helping and builds a habit of contributing.
