Peekaboo Garden Faces

About the Early Learning Resource

Peekaboo Garden Faces

Inspired by: Floral Peekaboo Cutouts
Recommended Age: 6–12 months

How this supports your child’s development:

Social-Emotional (face-to-face play, shared smiles)
Object Permanence (understanding someone is still there, even when hidden)
Visual Tracking (looking for movement behind objects)
Language Development (hearing playful language and vocal tones)

At-Home Setup & Instructions:
1. Make the “flowers”:
a. Cut a large flower or circle shape out of cardboard, paper plate, or poster
board.
b. Cut a hole in the center big enough for your face (or a photo).
2. Play peekaboo:
a. Hold the flower in front of your face and then quickly “peek” through the
center.
b. Say a consistent phrase like, “Peekaboo!” each time.
c. Vary the game by hiding your face longer or popping up from different angles.
3. Add variety:
a. Put a handheld baby-safe mirror behind the flower so your child “finds” their
own reflection.
b. Switch in photos of familiar people for your child to “discover.”

Parent Tip:
Use silly voices or change your expressions each time. Babies thrive on repetition, and peekaboo games are a powerful way to build connection and trust.
