Little Laundry + Kitchen Helper
Inspired by: L-House Kitchen, Laundry Room, and Pantry
Recommended Age: 24–36 months
How this supports your child’s development:
• Autonomy (doing real, meaningful tasks independently)
• Executive Function (following steps, remembering where things go)
• Fine Motor Skills (grasping, pinching, sorting)
• Early Math (matching socks, sorting by type or size)
• Language & Literacy (naming items, narrating tasks)
At-Home Setup & Instructions:
• Socks & cloths:
After laundry, invite your child to match socks or sort washcloths into a bin. Make it playful by finding "sock families" or matching by color or size.
• Utensil sorting:
After washing or emptying the dishwasher, show them how to place forks, spoons, and kid-safe utensils in the drawer—sort by type.
• Pantry organizing:
Give your child two bins and invite them to sort real (safe) pantry items—like stacking boxes together, putting fruits in a bowl, or lining up cans.
Let them take the lead—expect imperfections!
Parent Tip:
Let your child know: “This is your job, it helps our family.”
Use language like:
• “These are all spoons, where do they go?”
• “Let’s find all the washcloths and stack them.”
• “These two socks match. Can you find more like them?”
This builds working memory, categorization skills, and self-confidence, just like the museum experience, but embedded in everyday routines.
