Lap Bounch Song Play

About the Early Learning Resource

Lap Bounce Song Play

Inspired by: Social connection and rhythm elements in group spaces (like sitting in the
Puddle or soft play areas together)
Recommended Age: 0–6 months

How this supports your child’s development:

Social-Emotional (bonding through shared activity, eye contact)
Language & Communication (exposure to rhythm, tone, and repetition)
Motor Development (head control from gentle bouncing and swaying)
Sensory Exploration (feeling movement, hearing music)

At-Home Setup & Instructions:
Sit in a comfortable chair or on the floor with baby supported in your lap, facing you or facing out if there is someone else joining the play. Gently bounce, sway, or rock while singing a short nursery rhyme or clapping to a steady beat. Change the pace; make it slow for part of the song, then slightly faster for another part.

Parent Tip:
Exaggerate your facial expressions while singing and pause occasionally for baby to “respond” with coos or smiles. This strengthens early social turn-taking and helps baby link movement with sound patterns.
