DIY Board Game Builder
Recommended Age: 36–60 months
How this supports your child’s development:
• Executive Function (following simple rules, waiting for turns)
• Math Thinking (counting spaces, recognizing numbers)
• Gross Motor (moving pieces—can be physical movement by the child)
• Language Development (naming actions, giving instructions)
At-Home Setup & Instructions:
1. Make a quick path: Tape down 8–12 sheets of paper in a line or winding path on the floor.
2. Mark some spaces: Draw simple symbols or place stickers on a few sheets (e.g., Star = jump, Turtle = go slow, Apple = pretend to eat a snack).
3. Find a die (or make a spinner from cardboard).
4. Play: Each player rolls the die, counts the spaces, and moves to that sheet. If they land on a symbol, they do the action.
5. Optional twist: Use stuffed animals or toys as “players” if you want to keep it
tabletop friendly.
Parent Tip:
Make the path large enough so your child can be the “game piece” and physically move from sheet to sheet. Add a little challenge by including more complex movements, such as dance, hop on one foot, walk backwards, etc. This adds gross motor fun and keeps engagement high.
