Children’s Museum Houston celebrates Día de los Muertos with marigolds, memories, and magical moments!

 

Children’s Museum Houston will be magically transformed into a colorful, beautiful, and bountiful Land of the Dead! Step into a celebration bursting with vibrant marigolds, dazzling sugar skulls, and meaningful traditions during our spirited celebration of El Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) — a joyful time to remember loved ones and celebrate life itself!

 

SPECIAL EVENTS:

Calavera Face Painting and Mini Ofrenda:  Learn traditional calavera face painting and create your own mini ofrenda to honor loved ones. Ages 5+. Sign-ups open 1 hour prior.

Event Times: At the top of every half hour from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Chevron Maker Lab.

Story Time and Craft:  Listen, learn, and craft your way through tales of calaveras—the whimsical skulls that remind us to smile at life (and beyond).

Event Times:   11 a.m., 1 and3 p.m. in Kaleidoscope.

 

Intempo Dance: Let the rhythm of remembrance move you! Experience Mexican culture through storytelling and dance that bring Día de los Muertos to life.

Event Times:  Noon and 2 p.m. in Brown Auditorium.

 

ON-GOING ALL-DAY ACTIVITIES:  

  • Papel Picado: Snip, cut, and craft colorful banners in Kaleidoscope.
  • Alebrijes Stuffies: Design your own vibrant, mythical creature in Chevron Maker Lab.
  • CalaveraThermoplastics: Mold festive skulls in INVISTA Science Station.
  • Nicho Boxes: Create a decorative shadowbox tribute for someone you love in Kids’ Hall.
  • Sugar Skull Masks: Design a mask that celebrates life’s sweetest memories in Kids’ Hall.
