Coming Together for Texas Families

July 8, 2025

Dear Friends:

Our hearts are with the families and communities who are facing unimaginable loss and disruption following the devastating floods in Central Texas.  In moments like these, when the world feels overwhelming, children seek comfort, understanding, and hope.

At Children’s Museum Houston, we believe in the power of community, compassion, and action.  As a Museum centered around children and families, we want to provide a safe space for little hearts to make sense of big feelings and to respond in meaningful ways.

Here’s how we’re inviting families to take action with us:

  • Story Time with Heart: We’re gently pivoting our Library and Kaleidoscope Room story times to focus on themes of community, empathy, and kindness. We’ll explore how kids can help others, reinforcing that small acts of care make a big difference.
  • Take-Home Tools for Talking: We’re offering parents and caregivers simple take-home activities, along with age-appropriate conversation starters, to help children process what they’re hearing and seeing in the world around them. These tools are designed to support honest, comforting and empowering conversations at home.
  • Make a Difference with a Card or Bracelet: In our Kaleidoscope Room, children can create handmade cards and friendship bracelets to offer comfort and encouragement to families affected by the floods and the heroic first responders supporting them.  A little kindness can go a long way – and every message matters.

In the face of heartbreak, we believe in the power of community and providing space for children to process their feelings.

Thank you for joining us in showing that even during difficult times, hope, kindness and community still shine.

With compassion,

Rayanne Darensbourg
