Celebrate the Day of the Child with magic, music, and mayhem at Children’s Museum Houston and Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center!

HOUSTON (April 11, 2025) – Kids rule the day! Children’s Museum Houston and Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center are rolling out the red carpet for kids during Día del Niño, a day bursting with joy, creativity, and cultural celebration. Get ready to unleash your imagination, dance to the rhythm of excitement, and embark on a fiesta of fun designed especially for the young (and the young at heart)!

 

WHAT IS EL DÍA DEL NIÑO?

 

Celebrated on April 30 in Mexico and on various dates across Latin America, Día del Niño (Day of the Child) is a day dedicated to honoring and uplifting children, recognizing their importance in society and ensuring their happiness and well-being. Schools, communities, and families come together to celebrate with fun activities, special treats, and cultural festivities. It’s a day filled with laughter, joy, and a reminder that childhood should be magical!

 

SPECIAL EVENTS AT CHILDREN’S MUSEUM HOUSTON IN PARTNERSHIP WITH UNIVISION 45 HOUSTON

 

Mr. Leo Bilingual Puppet Show: Get ready to giggle, sing, and immerse yourself in a bilingual storytelling adventure! This interactive puppet show engages children in both English and Spanish through the magic of music and tales.

When:  At 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. in Kids' Hall Alcove.
 

Las Américas Ballet Folklórico:  Feel the energy, embrace the culture, and tap your feet to the beat of vibrant traditional dances performed by this Houston-based folklórico group.

When: At Noon in Brown Auditorium.

 

Sock Puppets and Story Time sponsored by Phillips 66: Craft your own sock puppet and watch it come to life in an exciting storytelling adventure!  

Limit: 12 students per workshop (ages 3+).  Sign up 1-hour prior.

When: At 10:30, 11:30 a.m., 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. in Alexander Design Studio.

Personalized Notebook Workshop: Get crafty and design your very own notebook while brushing up on your reading and writing skills!

Limit:15 students per workshop (ages 4+) Sign up 1-hour prior at Kaleidoscope.

When: At 10, 11 a.m., noon, 2 and 3 p.m. in Kaleidoscope.


DIY Tabletop Games: Why just play games when you can create them? Design and craft your very own personalized tabletop games and challenge your friends to play!

When: All day in Chevron Maker Annex.
 

SPECIAL EVENTS AT FORT BEND CHILDREN’S DISCOVERY CENTER

 

Piñata Workshops:  Learn the art of crafting colorful piñatas in a fun, hands-on workshop celebrating the traditions of Día del Niño!

When: At the top of every hour from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in OCUSOFT Art Academy.

 

The Aztec Princess by Express Children's Theater:  Join the Aztec Princess as she shares two classic fables about kindness and stranger danger while teaching Spanish vocabulary along the way!

When: At 11 a.m.  in Kidtropolis Town Square.

 

Joy Goes to Mexico by Young Audiences:  Author and illustrator Joy Sacton brings the adventurous story of José and his dog Coco to life through magic tricks, a giant book, puppets, and audience participation, fostering imagination, creativity, and cultural understanding.

When: At 1 p.m. in Kidtropolis Town Square.
