It’s a celebration of American history—and a whole lot more. All summer long, the Museum is showcasing 50+ original works of art by acclaimed illustrator R. Gregory Christie. This exhibition features illustrations from children's books that tell the story of the Harlem Renaissance, the Civil Rights Movement, and musical genres such as jazz and the blues. Curated by the National Center for Children's Illustrated Literature, the Houston exhibition of the Work and Whimsy of R. Gregory Christie is underwritten locally by The Crum Foundation.
Families can enjoy Christie's artwork along with his published books that are displayed in the Museum's central Kids' Hall. For visitors who want to take a piece of the exhibit home with them, all they need is a Houston Public Library Card. The Museum’s Parent Resource Library features Christie’s books—as well as thousands of other titles—that are perfect for reading this summer.
