In September, visitors made art that was part lightsaber, part magic wand, and 100% fun. Children “painted” by waving LED lights, with their “brushstrokes” recorded on a camera set at a slow shutter speed. The resulting stars, circles, and squiggles made for amazing photographs. This programming was part of ExxonMobil MindFest, which features activities that incorporate art, games, and other kid-friendly themes to make STEM exciting for everyone.
"Light painting has been my favorite MindFest activity so far," shared CMH Manager of STEM Programs Christi Chapman. "Many children 'painted' multiple pictures, discovering how their movements created different patterns. I enjoyed sharing my love of photography and teaching the science behind how cameras work, but the best part was the surprise when children saw the photos they created come off the printers!"
