How early do children begin thinking about careers? The answer might surprise you. A recent survey of Gen Z found that 25% of youth are seriously considering career options by age 13. Research shows that elementary school can be a key time for children to begin learning about careers.
The Museum makes exploring careers exciting for children and fun for the whole family. In Kidtropolis, children can roleplay almost 40 different careers—complete with ID badges, job responsibilities, and even a paycheck. Veterinarians, EMTs, loan officers, chefs, and cashiers are all a part of this simulated city.
Teachers have shared that learning about careers is one of the most memorable parts of Museum field trips.
A teacher from Wilchester Elementary wrote that her students "loved Kidtropolis and having jobs/earning money." Similarly, a teacher at Young Elementary in Pasadena ISD said that her students "really enjoyed getting a glimpse of real-life jobs. They will remember the whole experience; they had a blast."
Kidtropolis is underwritten by Bank of America; H-E-B; Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo; Niko Niko's; and Reliant, an NRG Company.
