A Storybook Beginning for CMH's New Gallery

August 6, 2026

Celebrating the Gallery of Wonder

Gather round, it’s time to hear the story of how little ones traveled to an enchanted wonderland of learning. On July 16th, the Museum celebrated the Grand Opening of its all-new, 9,500 square-foot Gallery of Wonder.

Children's Museum Houston CEO Rayanne Darensbourg led a special storytime that shared the history of the Museum’s original space for young children and how it had grown and welcomed families across more than three decades. The storybook pages then turned to the present day as a new chapter unfolded, with the pictures transforming into a giant red ribbon for the Grand Opening.

"This Gallery is more than a collection of exhibits. It is a space where babies can explore, toddlers can discover, preschoolers can imagine, and caregivers can engage in meaningful learning experiences alongside their children. This Gallery would not be possible without the generosity of our donors," shared Rayanne. "To our board, educators, designers, advisors, builders, and everyone who touched this project, thank you for the care you poured into every decision. To the families who will fill this gallery with laughter, learning, and wonder, this space was created for you. We cannot wait to see the countless moments of discovery that will take place within these walls."
