Nature Basket Exploration
Inspired by: EcoStation
Recommended Age: 6–12 months
How this supports your child’s development:
• Sensory Exploration (feeling textures, smelling natural scents)
• Fine Motor Skills (grasping, transferring objects between hands)
• Language Development (hearing descriptive words for textures, colors, and shapes)
• Cognitive Development (noticing differences and similarities in objects)
At-Home Setup & Instructions:
Gather a few safe, clean natural items—such as large pinecones, smooth stones, sturdy leaves, or pieces of driftwood. Place them in a shallow basket or low-sided box. Sit with your baby and let them reach in, choose an object, and explore it with their hands. Swap items in and out to keep it fresh.
Parent Tip:
Describe each item with sensory-rich words: “This pinecone is bumpy,” “The leaf is soft,” or “The rock is cool.” Keep a close watch to make sure the baby doesn’t put small items in their mouth.
