FillIt, Drive, Fix it

About the Early Learning Resource

Fill It, Drive It, Fix It!

Inspired by: Cars + Gas Pump Exhibit
Recommended Age: 12–24 months

How this supports your child’s development:

Imaginative Play (pretending to drive, fill up, or fix a car)
Gross Motor (climbing in/out, moving around the space)
Executive Function (sequencing, role-playing tasks)
Language Development (describing, labeling actions)

At-Home Setup & Instructions:
Set up a laundry basket, cardboard box, or push car as the “car.” Add props like old keys or a sponge for “washing.” Invite your child to fill up the tank, drive to a pretend store, or fix the engine. Let them take the lead!

Parent Tip:
Ask, “Where are you driving today?” or “Does your car need more gas?” to build vocabulary and encourage storytelling. Repetition of pretend routines helps strengthen memory and sequencing skills.
