Mr. Washington brings an extensive academic foundation in earth sciences and public engagement to his leadership role, having completed his undergraduate coursework at Lone Star College before earning his advanced credentials within the University of Houston System. Specializing in paleontology and geology, his commitment to academic excellence is demonstrated by his five years of service as a college level supplemental instructor, lab assistant, and tutor in these disciplines, where he mentored students and facilitated rigorous coursework.
In addition to his instructional background, Mr. Washington possesses 14 years of distinguished experience previously with the Houston Museum of Natural Science. During his tenure, he served as the head staff tour guide/trainer, adult education lecturer, senior lead of customer service, social media personality, and earth science educator. His pedagogical expertise and public engagement skills are further informed by active, hands-on field research. Mr. Washington routinely participates in significant paleontological excavations nationwide, collaborating with esteemed organizations such as the Whiteside Museum of Natural History in Seymour, Texas, the State of Utah Geological Survey, the Children's Museum of Indianapolis paleontology team, the Black Hills Institute of Geological Research, and previously with the Houston Museum of Natural Science, in addition to leading his own independent field trips.
The cornerstone of Mr. Washington’s career remains his dedication to translating complex scientific concepts into engaging public education. His ultimate professional objective is to design, develop, and instruct interactive museum exhibits dedicated to paleontology and geology. As Lead Educator, Mr. Washington leverages his extensive field discoveries, customer-centric leadership, and versatile media experience to advance the museum's mission daily, cultivating a profound appreciation for natural history among the children and families of Houston.
