Sensory Friendly and Explore Abilities Days Are Back at Children's Museum Houston

August 22, 2022
Sensory friendly days are back at Children's Museum Houston and sponsored by The Stanford and Joan Alexander Family.

Sensory Friendly Days and Explore Abilities Day are opportunities for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), sensory processing differences, learning differences and disabilities to explore the Museum at their own pace and time.

These exclusive events had been put on hold because of the pandemic.  New dates for 2022 to 2023 have been announced:

  • Monday, Oct. 17, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. – Explore Abilities Day
  • Monday, Dec. 12, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. - Sensory Friendly Day
  • Monday, Feb. 13, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 3p.m. – Explore Abilities Day
  • Monday, April 24, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. – Sensory Friendly Day

Both Sensory Friendly and Explore Abilities Day are exclusive events in which doors are closed to the general public.

These days burst with valuable Autism resources and interactive activities, provide a comfortable, protected and accepting environment, and give parents opportunities to make connections with other families and the Autism community.

Special care is taken to provide a comfortable experience, including playing no music and providing sound-reducing headphones.  Families may bring their own food as Fresh Café is closed during these times.

Special admission is $7 and pre-registration is required.

To register, please contact Lydia Dungus at ldungus@cmhouston.org or (713) 535-7238.
