About the exhibit

NOTE: Beginning Aug. 18, Tot*Spot will undergo a transformation to something BIG: Our entire 2nd floor is being reimagined with a brand-new Early Childhood exhibit!

During this transformation, here’s how we will continue to play:

  • Tot*Spot will be temporarily relocated to the Lower Level (available Saturday, Aug. 23).
  • Toddlers will rule the entire Museum!  Check out our Total Toddler Takeover events.
  • Find toddler-friendly exhibit components all around the Museum on the Toddler Trail map. For ages 0 to under 35 mo. (In both English and Spanish)
  • Discover additional activities and exhibit components in the Little Learners' Loop map, perfect for ages 3 to 5. (In both English and Spanish)
  • Visit the Baby Zone + Nursing Nook in the Tree Top Room.

Tot*Spot is designed to engage children ages 0-35 months in meaningful experiences that encourage active play. Educators

Tot*Spot has been thoughtfully designed to address developmental milestones of children ages 0-35 months. The space features many opportunities for infants and toddlers to interact and focus on language, literacy, social-emotional, motor and cognitive development.

Tot*Spot is also meant to be an interactive experience between the parent/caregiver and the infant/toddler as each interaction will create moments of creativity, imagination, expression and discovery.

What Parents are Saying

“It has been amazing to see the difference in how she now observes and plays with the manipulatives, from crawling to navigating the staircases. If you have a membership and come frequently, you don’t even have to buy toys at home.”

Exhibit Features

There’s a lot to see and do in this exhibit—check out some of these unique activities!

Crawler Cruise

A cozy, adventure-ready zone made just for our tiniest movers and shakers! With soft, squishy surfaces and just-right challenges, this space invites little ones to crawl, cruise, and wiggle their way through early movement milestones. It’s all about building strength, coordination, and confidence—one joyful scoot at a time. Grown-ups are encouraged to hop in and share the giggles!

The House

Step into our House prototype, a pint-sized play home where little ones can cook, clean, and explore daily routines through imaginative play. Designed to nurture autonomy, problem-solving, and social skills, this test version is just a sneak peek of the bigger, better house coming soon in our new 0–PreK exhibit!

Scarf Blower

Toddlers place scarves into the blower and watch with delight as they swirl through a maze of tubes, then burst out and dance through the air, just waiting to be caught. This playful experience helps little ones explore cause and effect—what happens when I put the scarf in? —and builds early spatial awareness as they track the scarf’s movement and reach out to catch it.
