Nano Days

NANO DAYS BASH
You're invited to celebrate the science of the super small at 5th annual NanoDays™
March 29 - April 4

Head to Museum and take a glimpse into the miniscule world of nanotechnology.  Discover why the stuff too small to see is of huge importance to study.  It’s only a “matter” of seeing these fun activities and experiments to understand why. NanoDays™ is part of a nationwide festival of educational programs about nanoscale science, matter and engineering.  Don’t forget to check out the Matter Factory exhibit where you can learn all about materials science and nano technology.

ON-G0ING ACTIVITIES:

• Gecko Tape:  Jump into the fun at Inventors’ Workshop and recreate the tiny toes of a gecko and learn all about the science of biomimicry.

• Buckyball: Stop on over at Junktion and create your own buckyball molecule!

• Nano Butterfly:  Spread your wings and fly on over to the Alexander Art Academy and create your own nano butterfly with the tiniest bit of sand.

• Nano Kits: Get a hands-on look at nanoscience at the Science Station by assembling a giant nanotechnology puzzle and playing the I Spy Nano game.

• Plants and Pants: Dive into learning at EcoStation and explore how the application of nano-sized particles can change a bigger material’s properties.

• Smelly Balloons: Take a shot at this sense-ational game and identify the scent molecules leaking through the balloons at Junktion!

• Nano Sand: Explore how water behaves differently when it comes in contact with nano sand and regular sand and learn about the hydrophobic properties of nano sand at the Science Station!

• Beady Neuron: Use four different colored beads and beading wire to create a colorful take-home model of a neuron at the Power Science Lab.

• Measure Little Things: Try out this nanoscale ruler that lets you measure tiny things like a lady bug or a grain of sand at the ExxonMobil Math Cart.

• What Am I?: Flip between macro and micro images of familiar objects to learn about ways that nanotechnology is inspired by nature at the Power Science Lab.

• Dragonfly TV: Come watch a special Nano-themed Dragonfly TV episode!
  Showtimes: 11 a.m., 2 & 4 in the Brown Auditorium
