Scholastic's The Magic School Bus Kicks Up A Storm traveling exhibit will immerse your visitors in a complete weather experience. The relaunch of the popular Magic School Bus
TV series on The Learning Channel has increased the awareness and demand of the exhibit theme and captivated an entire new generation of avid science learners.

Mrs. Frizzle's Classroom

Step into the Magic School Bus which is transforming into a flying Weather Observatory! Inside the bus, lots of weather can be created, experienced, and measured, from a thunderstorm with lightning, to a blizzard, to a breezy kite-flying day.
  • Thunderstorm Window – Measure lightning distances and discover what causes the brilliant flashes of light.
  •  Make A Flake – Create unique snowflakes using ice crystals.
  • Make & Take – Create weather tools to take home with a fun new activity each week.
  • Weather Mixing Dashboard – Select the temperature, humidity, and wind speed and see the weather you created displayed on two state of the art plasma screens.
  • Weather Portholes – Experience extreme weather phenomena. Hear the howling winds and torrential downpour of a hurricane. Feel the cold wind as snow flurries whip around in the distance.
  • Cloud Clues – Identify different cloud types in the sky.

The Weather Observatory

As with all Scholastics The Magic School Bus field trips, your day includes time in The Classroom with teacher extraordinaire, Ms. Frizzle. Ralphie and his classmates are on a field trip at the local weather station, but they have left behind their most current science experiments about weather ingredients for other kids to explore.

  • Tim's Hot Backyard
    Compare effects of the Sun's heat on a variety of outdoor surfaces.
  •  Keesha's Cook Up Some Wind
    Observe how wind is created through convection currents.
  • Carlos' Air Blasters
    Blast a puff of air at clouds suspended from the ceiling.
  • Dorothy Ann's Ring Around The Seasons
    Learn how the earth's tilt is the reason for the seasons.
  • Wanda's Water Cycle Wheel
    Activate the three components of weather.
  • Also, Search for cool weather protection in Ms. Frizzle's bureau, put together a puzzle of the North American climate zones, search for weather words on the chalkboard, and send postcards to Liz!

•  Weather Reporting Assignment Desk - Take an assignment to gather weather data and file a report at FNN TV or Radio Frizzle.
•  Frizzle News Network Radio - Report your weather data and hear it broadcast while learning the inside scoop on weather terms and vocabulary.Frizzle News Network TV - Go live to let viewers know what weather to expect. Use magnets to post weather conditions. Go "On- Location" as a reporter dressed for the weather to share safety precautions to take during severe weather.
•  Walkerville Weather Bureau - Call stations around Walkerville to help the Mayor decide if school can safely stay open.
•  Weather Video Jukebox - See footage of tornados, meet meteorologists, find out how to set up your own backyard weather station, and more from cool video clips.
•  Live Weather Feed - Check the weather conditions at your museum from the live data coming in from the weather station connected outside.
•  Local Weather Board - Join Liz as she posts the real-time weather at the museum.
•  Meet The Meteorologist* - Can you crush an aluminum can without touching it? Simply use the air around you and get wowed as you learn about the basic properties of one of weather's key ingredients.
