JAXA ASTRONAUT TO VISIT CMH

Look beyond the stars with JAXA astronaut Koichi Wakata
Free Astronaut Ice Cream to be served
August 27, 3 - 4 p.m.

Blast off into space with a JAXA Astronaut!Blast off into space with the visit of Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) astronaut, Dr. Koichi Wakata on Saturday, Aug. 27.  Dr. Wakata, 48, will be at CMH to share his experiences and to inspire children to explore the farthest reaches of the universe.  Kids will have the opportunity to check out what kind of situations astronauts have to be ready to face in an interactive show-and-tell presentation.  They will also enjoy ice cream just as astronauts do— the freeze-dried way!  (While supplies last).

Dr. Wakata reported to the Johnson Space Center in August 1992.  He completed one year of training and was qualified for assignment as a mission specialist on the space shuttle.  A veteran of three space flights, he has logged a total of 159 days, 10 hours, 46 minutes and 5 seconds in space.  Since April 2010, he has been serving as the chief of the JAXA Astronaut Group.  Dr. Wakata has been assigned as a flight engineer to the Expedition 38 crew and the commander to the Expedition 39 crew and is scheduled to fly to the ISS aboard Soyuz 37 in late November 2013.
