McGovern Kids Hall alongside Junktion, a collection of activity tables that form together to make a train. Parent Resource Library

Parents now have a complete, cutting-edge and comfortable place to turn for all their parenting questions and concerns. The Childrens Museum of Houston, together with the Houston Public Library, opened the Parent Resource Library, the first of its kind in the country, in the Childrens Museum in the spring of 1999. Since then, nearly 1,000 visitors a week have used the library, checking out books, thumbing through resources and printing information off the internet while their children read childrens books or play with educational toys right alongside them. The librarys unique design enables the parents, educators and even doctors who are looking for information to find what they need on shelves waist-high and up, checking out the materials with a Houston Public Library card, while childrens materials keep the younger minds busy on the lower shelves. Primary Explorations for Children and Educators in Science (PEACHES)

Trainings offer a chance for educators to receive curriculum designed by the Lawrence Hall of Science that stimulates young learners’ (preK-1st) innate curiosity about the world around them. This rich curriculum offers a variety of topics in both the life and physical sciences through a variety of activities involving everything from ladybugs to bubbles. The curriculum is in use in Spring Branch ISD, Houston ISD, Galena Park ISD, Aldine ISD, Channelview ISD, Fort Bend ISD, Lamar CISD and Angleton ISD.

CMH believes that the process of learning is as important as the product. A Field Trip to CMH offers your students a learning experience through hands-on, minds-on activities. These activities surrounded your students with challenging problems and absorbing questions.

The teacher packet includes TEKS aligned activities for grades Pre-K through 5. Use it as a resource to prepare your students for their Museum Adventure visit. EcoStation - Environmental Exhibit

EcoStation Re-opens June 2008! EcoStation is temporarily closed due to our Expansion to double the size of the Museum by March 2009. The exhibit will reopen in June 2008. EcoStation is a one-of-a-kind hands-on, outdoor, environmental exhibit, which focuses on ecosystems and environmental issues through a native plant garden, puppet stage, woodland area, bayou table, pond and a research pavilion. Children's Museum of Houston Members who purchase memberships at the Patron Family, Junior Sponsor, Benefactor and Carykid levels are entitled to Free admission to more than 290 participating museums and science centers in over a dozen countries through the ASTC Travel Passport Program. The Travel Passport Program entitles visitors to free general admission. It does not include free admission to planetarium and larger-screen theater presentations nor does it include museum store discounts and other discounts associated with museum membership unless stated otherwise. Based on you science center’s/museum’s location: Science centers/museums located within 90 miles of each other are excluded from the Travel Passport Program unless that exclusion is lifted by mutual agreement. Science center/museums may create their own local reciprocal free-admission program. ASTC does not require or participate in these agreements, or dictate their terms.
Based on residence: To receive Travel Passport Program benefits you must live more than 90 miles away from the center museum you wish to visit. Admissions staff reserves the right to request proof of residence for benefits to apply.

Free Family Night

Thursdays, 5 - 8 p.m.

Thursday evenings from 5 to 8 p.m. the Museum hosts Free Family Nights, during which all admission fees are waived and families are able to come to the Museum and experience everything CMH has to offer. The free admission provided to visitors not only includes access to all of our hands-on exhibit but to a wide variety of programming that extends from the cultural arts to science and math.

On every Thursday night, families can come to the Museum and experience a Spotlight Performance free of charge, including artists like the following:

Del Espadin Flamenco Dance Academy - These performers introduce their audience to traditional flamenco dancing.

Las Americas Ballet Folklorico - This troupe delights parents and children alike with their traditional Mexican songs and dances.

Express Children's Theatre - A favorite of among Museum visitors, these actors present several performances at CMH each year, which range from classic fairytales to the historical plays.

Dionysus Theatre - Consisting of young able-bodied and disabled performers, this theatre troupe works to promote tolerance and understanding for people of all ability levels.

Mariachi Imperial - This nine-person mariachi group from Mexico has entertained audiences for more than 17 years.

Anjali Indian Dance Troupe - A Houston-based group, these performers introduce visitors to classical Indian dances.

CHILDREN’S MUSEUM OF HOUSTON FAQ How much does it cost to get into the Children’s Museum of Houston? The Children’s Museum is a great place for affordable, educational fun. Admission to the Museum is $5 per person; $4 for seniors 65 and up; children under two and Museum Members are admitted free of charge. There is also special twilight fee of $3 per person after 3 p.m. on Tuesdays through Sundays. The Museum is also FREE every Thursday from 5 – 8 p.m. What are your hours of operation? The Tot*Spot exhibit is the place to bring children ages birth to 36 months. The eye-catching bubble machine is a first stop, but not the last as tots crawl, cruise or walk throughout the exhibit, which has four distinct areas. These areas promote exploration, discovery, experimentation and wonder. The Museum also occasionally offers a Tot*Spot Lecture Series. The next Lecture Series will be offered in April 2008. Ask Dr. Wei – Tuesdays at 2 p.m. Dr. Andy Wei , a pediatrician with Texas Children’s Hospital, volunteers his time in Tot*Spot every week to answer your questions.
