If you think a day at the museum is a great time, don’t miss out on our party packages! We have great deals that allow for the ultimate fun experience. You get a private party room, a Children’s Museum T-shirt for the birthday boy or girl, a balloon bouquet and 20 postcard invitations from the museum itself. All of this for 20 people amounts to $250 ($50 non-refundable deposit to secure reservation). Additional people are $8 per person. Chaperones are free. We ask you provide your own cake, refreshments and paper goods.

Adults, don’t be shy, you are welcome to have your party or a party for a friend here too! We know you enjoy our museum just as much, if not more, as the children do.

Hurry up! Our slots are limited and in high demand. In fact, call 2–3 months in advance to be sure to get a party room! We require a minimum of two weeks prior notice.

Available Birthday Party Times:
Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Fridays: 4–6 p.m.
Saturdays: 10 a.m.–noon, 1–3 pm, 4–6 p.m.

Sundays: 1–3 p.m. or 4–6 p.m.

Countdown to the New Year begins at NOON!

New Year’s Noon is the city’s longest-running New Year’s Eve celebration just for kids! This end-of-year bash rings the New Year at the stroke of noon with a parade and drop of a vibrant ball, just like they do in Times Square, but kids won’t have to stay up till midnight!

Don't miss these special New Year's Eve events:

New Year’s Day Float Making & Parade: Create a personal New Year’s Day float and be part of our exciting parade!

Float Making: 10 a.m. –1:30 a.m.
Parade: 11:30 a.m.

Brilliant Ball Drop: Watch as we celebrate the beginning of a new year just like they do on TV!

Countdown begins at 11:45 a.m.

Texas Brass Band: Dance to the jazzy tunes of our amazing brass band and celebrate the New Year in style!

New Year's Eve activities:

Glow Glasses: Celebrate the New Year by decorating 2010 glow glasses that incorporate LEDs into the design.
Film Canister Rockets: Shoot off a film canister rocket using simple supplies.
Glowing Fireworks: Create you own glowing firework display using UV sensitive highlighters.
Firework Glasses: Put on special glasses and watch colors burst to life.
Noise Makers: Make a noisy noise maker to help ring in the New Year.
New Year’s Puzzles: Find hidden New Year’s words in the word search puzzle or fill in the blanks from the clues on the New Year’s crossword puzzle.

New Year, New Calendar: Decorate your own 2010 calendar to hang up at home.

Holiday Seasons of Sharing

The Children's Museum of Houston is bursting with excitement over Seasons of Sharing, a holiday exhibit opening Nov. 14, 2009 to Jan. 10, 2010. Learn about seven holidays from around the world, all celebrated right here in the Bayou City! With more than 90 languages spoken throughout the Houston area, our city’s cultural diversity has found a home within this exhibit.

Ramadan, Diwali, Las Posadas, Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, and the Lunar New Year will all be represented in Houston’s only multicultural holiday exhibit for children. These seven celebrations will come together in Seasons of Sharing, where a block-long neighborhood of houses light the way through the holiday season. Families will delight in seeing dipa lamps, menorahs, luminarias, kinaras, Christmas lights, and the crescent moon dazzle the neighborhood.

The Children's Museum of Houston is seeking an outstanding early childhood educator for the 11th Annual Martel Award! The Marian and Speros Martel Early Childhood Educator Award is presented annually to an outstanding professional that possesses an exemplary commitment to the education of young children in Houston. VOLUNTEER AT A PLAYGROUND FOR YOUR MIND!TM The Children's Museum of Houston offers many volunteer opportunities for teens, adults and groups. During your volunteer experience, you have the chance to interact with visitors, assist staff in the action-packed exhibits or help our hard-working Administrative staff. Discovery Squad Program School Session is filled. Summer Session applications will be available in January. The Discovery Squad, our teen volunteer program, are required to be 14 years of age prior to beginning the program and no older than 17 years old. Discovery Squad members are asked to complete a minimum of 50 hours of volunteer service to the Museum during the summer months or throughout the school year. Mirrors are used in several of the defined spaces to add to the child’s learning whether they are on their tummies gazing at themselves in the mirror in a padded area as they play or dancing with scarves in the amphitheater.

The Ball and Pillow Pit is a spot for children and their parents to explore the realm of physical knowledge by rolling, kicking and tossing a variety of balls.

Walking up carefully sized steps and over rippling bumps keeps many a toddler spell-bound on the Meandering Path. Parents walk along side playing peek-a-boo
or conversing with their child as he travels the
well-worn path learning to maneuver around
other tots.

With knobs, switches and door bells to push and turn throughout the exhibit, tots have the opportunity to experience cause and effect their actions.
