Scientists are developing a new, super-strong adhesive, inspired by lizards’ feet! Welcome to The Matter Factory where the Fact of the Matter is Matter Matters! Step into a whimsical factory from the future in The Matter Factory exhibit. Visitors will develop the understanding that everything is made up of material or matter. They will learn that molecules and atoms are the building blocks of matter as they investigate materials and solve factory problems. In The Matter Factory, visitors can test the invisible properties of matter discovering the density, viscosity and elasticity of different materials. They also will interact with what scientists call smart materials, materials that have properties that can be dramatically changed. Kids will be amazed as they take a closer look – 200 times closer – at...

Parent Resource Library

Parents now have a complete, cutting-edge and comfortable place to turn for all their parenting questions and concerns. The Childrens Museum of Houston, together with the Houston Public Library, opened the Parent Resource Library, the first of its kind in the country, in the Childrens Museum in the spring of 1999. Since then, nearly 1,000 visitors a week have used the library, checking out books, thumbing through resources and printing information off the internet while their children read childrens books or play with educational toys right alongside them. The librarys unique design enables the parents, educators and even doctors who are looking for information to find what they need on shelves waist-high and up, checking out the materials with a Houston Public Library card, while childrens materials keep the younger minds busy on the lower shelves. By arming parents and caregivers with information, the...

About the exhibit Mirrors are used in several of the defined spaces to add to the child’s learning whether they are on their tummies gazing at themselves in the mirror in a padded area as they play with a Sassy toy or...
