Event Description

Children's Museum of Houston pays a colorful tribute to Mother Nature during Earth Day Celebration, April 17 – 23
Special Earth Day Salute on April 19

Save your planet!Twenty million people took part in the first Earth Day celebration in 1970. Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson wanted a nationwide protest to get people to think about cleaning up the environment, and he got it. As a result, The EPA was formed and the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act and Endangered Species Act were passed. This goes to show it takes only one person who believes in a cause to create an entire movement with lasting impact!

Join us as we find ways to preserve the planet with eco-friendly games and activities during our weeklong Earth Day Celebration! Explore energy saving ideas, resource conservation, recycling tips, and alternative fuel source concepts! It’s the small things that together make a BIG difference!

ACTIVITIES:

Where Does Our Garbage Go?: One person dumps about 4 lbs. of trash a day. So where do they put all that stuff? Find out how trash is recycled, composted, land filled or energized.

Tree Shapes Puzzle: All trees are unique. Their shapes include columnar, pyramidal, and even weeping! Match the tree with its corresponding figure.

Explorations into Nature’s Power: Adventure in nature’s alternative venture: the wind and the sun. Learn how to capture their energy and liberate your dependency on conventional power.

SPECIAL EVENTS:

Go Recycle!: Recycling reduces how much trash goes into landfills and conserves natural resources. Get with your family and identify what can or cannot go in the can!
